Coach Chris George

47 year-old father of 3 wonderful kids (Jenna 18 , Andrew 13, Erika 3)

Married 23 years, 9 months, 21 days to an amazing woman (Kristie)

My ‘love’ for running began in my senior year of high school. While training (for the popular sport I just had to be part of) I began to realize that I was a much better runner than football player. That year I decided to run a half-marathon and found that the 13 miles was really not that bad of a run, and completed the distance without much trouble. From there I began competing in triathlons and other multi-sport races Southern California had to offer while working my way through an undergraduate degree in Physical Education with a teaching/coaching emphasis.

After graduating from San Diego State University with a degree that included a teaching/coaching emphasis, my official coaching career began in 1989 with a high school swim team in San Diego. In 1998 we moved to Medford and I quickly became involved with middle school sports, as well as club sport coaching. When the chance to take over the track program at Grace Middle School I did not hesitate. I eagerly accepted and enjoyed the opportunity. Working in a Christian setting allowed for the near-perfect blend of my coaching & ministry backgrounds.

In 2009 I was offered the Cascade track position, which I eagerly accepted, but was able to keep my middle school connection by heading up the Grace Christian Cross Country program as well. The combination allows me to give some athletes there start in competitive running, while working with other to fine-tune some very impressive skills. Despite the different age/skill level, the goal for both remains consistent: work in the direction of excellence - not only with respect to athletic competition, but also with regard to the challenge of living a Christ-like life. Hard work, a healthy appreciation of commitment, and understanding the value of those who make up the team help move us in that direction. More than anything, it is my desire to establish a team compelled to compete with the passion, poise, and proven character of those known as followers of Christ - representing one another, their school, and their Lord with the respect and dignity they deserve.
